First dual-function machine combining feeding forage and straw spreading LAMMA Machine of the Year Bronze Award recipient

Spread-a-Bale’s latest system, the Combi-Bale has received the prestigious Machine of the Year Bronze Award from the LAMMA event organisers, a head of the January event where it will be officially
launched.

The award which was created by LAMMA to celebrate innovation within agricultural manufacturing, recognized the Combi-Bale, the first ever dual-function machine which combines two everyday tasks – feeding forage and straw spreading. The machine was designed and developed by Spread-a-Bale in response to demand from livestock producers seeking to streamline their operations, as well as save time, labour and capital investment.

The Combi-Bale’s side mounted design is based on Spread-a-Bale’s HR straw spreading machine which features a head with one single horizontal rotor with the addition of newly designed bladed-edge tines. A new diverter valve and dual-speed motor controls the rotor’s direction – the bladed-edge tines rotate in an anti-clockwise direction chopping and feeding out haylage or silage into the feed passage or fence, as well as loading directly into a mixer wagon, while the clockwise rotation throws straw up to 15 metres.

The re-engineered hood and crop roller system has been designed for smooth, even material flow. Performance has been upgraded with the addition of new high-flow hydraulics enabling the machine to deliver 46% more power and 27% greater efficiency. Compared to a conventional turbine combination machine, the Combi-Bale has a significantly reduced power requirement.

The Combi-Bale head is available with Mini, Midi, Midi XL, Maxi and Maxi XL body sizes, as well as a trailed chassis for the Midi size and upwards.

“Spread-a-Bale is thrilled to once again feature among LAMMA’s prestigious Innovation Awards, this time to secure the Machine of the Year Bronze Award,” comments the company’s chief executive, Michael Hughes. “The Combi-Bale’s two in one system marks further significant progress in our range of bespoke machines, enabling farmers to make cost savings and improve their overall efficiency; the machine will not only save time and labour, but also financial outlay.”
