Agricultural Design Engineer

We’re hiring. We are growing our Spread-a-Bale team as a result of increasing sales and new product development. Designed and manufactured in Cheshire, our range of unique patent protected machines have become market leaders, working on beef, dairy, sheep, equine, pig and poultry units in the UK, Europe, North and South America, Asia and Oceania. 

Multi award winning for our innovation, Spread-a-Bale is continually developing new models in all agricultural sectors, together with the equine and recycling marketplace. 

Exceptional growth has led us to create a new position of Agricultural Design Engineer. This role will suit an Agricultural Engineering graduate who is self-driven, responsible and motivated.

Role overview

The successful candidate will play a key role in designing innovative new products and enhancing existing machines. The position is ideal for a professional with experience in agricultural design engineering who while mentored by senior leaders, will be encouraged to take ownership of responsibilities and proactively contribute to business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Designing components and products for the agricultural machinery equipment
• Sketching, concept development, CAD, realistic rendering, prototyping, testing, fabrication, engineering drawings, and preparation of production files
• Project lead and taking ownership
• Managing product handover and sign off with the production team
• Supporting the design team in concept development from briefs supplied
• Reviewing and preparing operator manuals for each product
  

The Ideal Candidate

• Agricultural industry combined with design engineering experience with extensive 3D CAD skills from a recognised CAD system – SolidWorks
• Mechanically minded, from a hands-on practical background, showing a thorough knowledge of machine function, materials, fabrication and assembly processes
• A recognised qualification in Engineering Design (although career experience giving the necessary expertise and competence will be highly valued) 
• A positive, can-do attitude, resourceful and focused on achieving results within a given time frame and a strong ability to relate designs to practical in-field operation and performance
• A self-starter mentality, capable of working effectively in and contributing to a team environment and the on-going development of existing and new products
• Good all-round communication and interpersonal skills, along with a high standard of IT literacy
